Risk management continues to be a hot topic in the events industry, but the focus is always on reacting to a catastrophe or disaster. While catastrophes and disasters are horrific, they are the responsibility of governments not event professionals. As an industry we need to concentrate on being proactive. We want to learn how to anticipate, prepare, monitor, and respond to risks at events. This session will use the Robson Risk Management Model, case studies, and discussions to give you a better understanding of how you approach risk.

Dr. Linda Robson is a Professor at Endicott College in the Gerrish School of Business, where she shares her passion for the events industry with the next generation of professionals. Before moving into academia, Linda spent over 20 years planning events across the globe—including New Zealand, Europe, the United States, and Canada.

In 2003, she returned to school to further her expertise, earning a Master of Tourism Administration and a Ph.D. This blend of hands-on experience and academic achievement gives Linda a unique perspective on the industry—one that bridges practical know-how with research-driven insights.
Linda is an active member of MPI and NACE and has contributed to the industry through articles, case studies, and book chapters on risk management and event planning. She is a sought-after speaker, presenting at leading conferences and events such as Risk 360, NACE Evolve, The Special Event, PCMA’s Annual Conference, ILEA Live, EventWorld, and MPI’s WEC.

Whether in the classroom or on stage, Linda brings an engaging, applied approach to learning—offering event professionals strategies they can use immediately to plan smarter, safer, and more successful events.
